Default Vids from my gym

One of the powerlifters at my gym (Derek) keeps a lot of videos up. I thought some people might be interested. Derek is the one that's a doing a competition in Ohio this weekend...he's wearing a black shirt in the most recent ME Squat video. The guy in the white shirt in that video (Pat) is the one that trained at the same gym as Louie Simmons. Both of these guys are very much in to WSB.

Derek won his class at the IPA Power Station Pro-Am in Sharonville, Ohio. He managed a 750lb squat (PR), 430lb bench (PR by +50lbs), & 575lb deadlift. He missed 630 on DL twice & that kept him from IPF Elite status, I believe. Overall, a completely awesome meet for him. He only competes in tested, single ply meets. I just found out today that he is sponsored by APT. He's 21, 5'10", & weighed in for the meet at 177. He's the definition of strong IMO. Here is the link to the results page from the meet.

EDIT: The meet was this weekend (Aug 22-24)

Well I've never done benching with a shirt or really payed much attention to it but what is the idea behind all the partial reps?

Very cool vids. The squats are amazing.

When he does partials, he's normally trying to get through a sticking point. Rack pulls help with the end of the lift (lock out), all of the board pressing he does helps him break through his sticking point, which is about 4" off of his chest. To give you an idea, Pat can do a full bench press with more weight than he can board press. Derek can board press a lot more than he can conventionally press. I though that was pretty interesting. Also, I believe that shirts & suits help more with the bottom half of the lift. So when he's benching, the easiest part of the lift will be from his chest to about 4-5" off of his chest.

Gotcha. It all seems pretty bass-ackwards if you know what I mean.

Lol you wouldnt' really know until you've benched with a shirt for a while. I've heard its a whole new ball game.

Yeah, it is. In his case, it makes a lot more sense. He has a joint condition where his joints didn't fully form...they're still kind of open. So he has had to deal with subluxations in his shoulders & hips for the past few years. They're few & pretty far in between, but it's still a major issue for him because he is a powerlifter. Lifting in gear helps to prevent injury.
