Default what's the link between size and runing?

i've noticed over time that when i do sprints instead of regular runing, i seem to put on more muscle faster. only thing is, i like sprints and all, but i'm in the military and i'm tested on the 2 mile run. i dont have any problem passing it, but i still wanna get more 2 mile runing sessions in for endurance. what can i do to stop from loosing mass when i run? do i need to just eat a meal with more calories a couple hours before i run?

Not just before the run. You need to eat more throughout the day. You won't just be burning more calories while you're running. You'll be burning an elevated number of calories afterward also because of the running (EPOC).

I would increase carbs a bit more personally. Read the thread in the nutrition forum on pre and post workout nutrition also. Most of that will hold true for you.

40/40/20 (pro/carbs/fat) is a good macro nutrient ratio for people that do a lot of endurance stuff and strength train.

Default Incorporate the sprints in your 2 mile run....

Sprint for a stretch... then jog or walk for a stretch, (I use the distance between telephone poles)... sprint for a stretch, then jog or walk again. Keep doing this for the 2 miles or what ever you want to train for. After a while, start shortening the active rest... or picking up the pace on your active rest... and lengthen the sprint. Keep doing this... and over time the rest keeps getting quicker paced until eventually you are running the whole 2 miles at a much faster pace. I'm not saying you will be able to sprint 2 miles... duh....
