Generally, I usually go with 30-40 grams BCAA's preworkout not because it's better than protein, but because it's lighter on my stomach.

Probably because I'm a pussy. :)

Haven't read it yet , but I do 28g of BCAA's all day. I find it's better to keep my body saturated with them all day rather than quick bursts of 20g(or more) at a time.

Now - on a bulk it may be different.

loved tha article eric. thanks!:WEIGHT~13:
im currently trying to bulk but im not a huge fan of putting on fat.(imagine that) so i supplement with BCAA around workouts, and i haven't seen much of a difference so far but it i've only been doing it 4-5 weeks

I take about 5g during workout. I got the standard bulk powder, it's very difficult to swallow! :lol

I guess it all comes down to , do what you want to do or what works for you.

Seemed to be 3 for and 3 against it and 1 maybe :D

Do your own study ( test ) and if you like it use it.

There are some good points on both ends of the table ( I guess since it's a round table there are no ends :biglaugh: ).

I think the biggest argument is against bcaa's as a magic miracle bullet for preserving lean mass and all that happy horseshit.

Pre-workout IS the most important (compared to post) but on the same token..you damn sure better not be in a fasted state anyway. Nutrient timing and pre workout protein intake can be important but it is secondary to overall diet.

Aminos will simply not do all the various things they've been reported to do. That is just reality and some people experimenting and anecdotally saying it "works" for them is just meaningless.

But if someone is going to PERFORM better using bcaa's pre workout rather than whey due to stomach comfort...performacne IS the first consideration. And you'd be better off being in a well fed state rather than worrying about immediately pre workout intake but if you're in a deficit you can't always guarantee that of course.

I don't think there is a magic miracle.

I do agree with DH on the stomach matter. I hate working out with a full stomach.

Depending on the time of day I will always eat or drink something before I work out. But I never stop taking my BCAA's . Maybe it's over kill on my part , but it sure aint going to hurt . Plus it helps me get in my 4-6 L of water each day.

You don't believe it is a magic miracle yet you would NEVER stop taking it :). Something a bit incongruous in that statement.

I'm not going to try to convince you or anyone else though. I'm just posting information because in the end people really want to believe more than "know" and I can't change that.

I just want to be clear though, that many people can deal quite easily with simple whey before a workout..well diluted without feeling full. I just don't want newbies to get confused here and think that a whey shake produces discomfort because of most is doesn't.

That's right. BCAA's are just protein are they not ?
