I wouldn't recommend spreading your legs farther apart...not at first anyway. That will just create more problems down the road. Best to try to do them correctly first. A large portion of learning to squat with good depth is mental. Lots of people have poor ankle and hip flexion also. Spreading your legs farther apart won't necessarily help with any of these issues.
