Fruit seeds?
I just ate an orange (seeded), and got to thinking, is it good/beneficial to eat the seeds? I can stand the taste. I eat as much of the white fiber that stays on the orange after I peel it, too. I searched, but could not find anything.

Apple seeds contain a sort of cyanide. A lot of other seeds contain actually some stong antioxidants and such but I'm sure there are others that are poison too (it's not enough of anything in a few apple seeds to really hurt you btw). I would definitely be careful. You would have to chew the heck out of them to get much from them anyway. But you can get extracts of seeds as dietary supplements...grape seed extract, citrus seeds, etc.

you gotta remember that fruit is designed by nature to be eaten so that the seeds go through the guts of animals and get "deposited" in a "nutrient rich" environment, so most seeds don't offer much in the way of nutrition to humans. there are exceptions, such as the sunflower seed.
I think I remember my college professor saying that you would need to eat about 1/2 cup of apple seeds to die from the cyanide.

Well I think 1/2 cup apple seeds would just pass through the gut unchanged, which is the idea right? So they probably wouldn't do anything to you. You'd have to grind them up, chew them up thorougly, etc. But there is nutrition in seeds. Lots of it in fact for such a small package. But it wasn't designed for us to eat, as triggey said.
But remember nuts are seeds. Also, some seeds we can eat besides sunflower seeds are sesame seeds and pumpkin seeds.

Thanks for the heads up, guys, I really appreciate it. Even though a few seeds may only have trace amounts of cyanide, I'll get some extra fiber/nutrients from other sources. I know that some seeds, such as pomegranate are safe to eat, but I will look up the others to be safe.
"you gotta remember that fruit is designed by nature to be eaten so that the seeds go through the guts of animals and get "deposited" in a "nutrient rich" environment," LOL, It makes perfect sense, triggey. As soon, as I read that, I remembered how seeds also stick to animal fur to get to other places. Isn't science neat?

Oh, yeah. I forgot about pomegranate. I wish they weren't so expensive.
