Yes, I have heard of training environment being a key to success. But, I have never actually experience anything like that. I just like to train alone. I guess I am a recluse

That OH squat thing wasn't so bad.
You should just try using a box or bench for the pistols right now. Just start with something fairly high that you can manage without assistance and then as you master that go lower and lower.
Problem with using your hands like that is you are taking out a vital component of the skill. I don't think that is the way to go.
Just doing them to a box in itself will be a very good movement and that should allow you to progress by going lower and lower.
Of course you don't have to just rely on one method. You can use any combination of beginning methods. Mix it up, switch it up, whatever.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

I can use a lower box, sir. I will try that next time. I'll use a lower box than that which I use for uni squats. I'll use the same depth as I do for a box squat. We can work downwards from that once I have my fundamentals down right.

When you say uni squats isn't that the same thing we're talking about here? Uni-squats to a box progressed to pistols (to the floor) in other words.
Pity, I've already been dong mine on the floor as you know but I tried some step down just to see if I could get a bit more volume...I almost fell and busted my ass, lol.

I tried that, pity but it felt very odd and awkward. So I ditched that idea.

No, I was just making sure we weren't talking about two different things.
