Those are some interesting points, I need to go find that article. I hopped on the belt bandwagon around 225 for squats, been using it for every set. Looks like I've gotta wean myself back off it. Hopper, those squats are lookin great. Nice work

Ok Im behind a bit!!

Light day, I didnt squat today, I decided I need to work a bit on my deadlifts so I started with them,I worked up pretty heavy to 140kg but then my formed started to slip.Upper back rounded so I didnt push it too far.Next week Ill go a tiny bit lighter and get some more reps.Press stalled yet again, not sure where to go with it either, its not a priority lift for me at all, my goals are more powerlift orientated. It seems that I make a couple weeks of PRs for 5x5 and then bam miss reps out of nowhere and I have to reset.Maybe I should try some lower volume and higher intensity stuff? After this it was some rows and abs.

Light Day 9/4/08
Deadlift 1x1 120kg,2x1 130kg, 1x1 140kg
Press 2x5 1x4 43.5kg 1x1 50kg (PR)
Rows 2x5 40kg (Gay!!)

When was your last deload ? Maybe that's all you need to get refreshed and back blasting PR's

I must admit I havent deloaded fully in a while, that may be half the problem actually! Press does this all the time tho it just a pain in the ass lift and if it doesnt really help my bench then screw it!!

Give a deload a shot and then come back ready to go. :)

everybody has such days....dont get so low. you perhaps dont really need a deload. if you're feeling the usual symptoms of over reaching (stress, nausea, sleep disorders, anxiety, etc etc) then taking a week off will be a good thing. or "deloading" because there are so many many ways to deload...

That's a new variant!

I'm not sure I'd call that a "light" day. Failure on the press and singles until form break down on the heaviest lift the human body can do. Not really "light." I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this, but calling it a "light" day is a bit odd.

My own experience on the belt issue. I used to belt anything considered a work set. A little while ago I just took the belt off and now I only belt it when going for a max test. I think I've worn it twice since September. Thing is, I don't really feel that my core strength has improved since taking the belt off. I don't know how I would know either way anyways.

People argue back and forth about this; some saying your core won't keep up if you belt, others saying it keeps up just fine. I've never come accross anything conclusive on either side. Do any of you guys have anything worth reading on this topic?

Cheers,
Jeff

I've posted a lot of stuff under training articles. The first is "Back Strong and Beltless" which is an interesting, if a little to enthusiastic with details, treatment.

There are several other posts under that. Then the last is some links to articles by Stuart McGill.

Unfurtunately more people are attracted to articles with words like biceps, bulk, cut, mass, etc to notice any of that :biglaugh:

I know what you mean Jeff, wed is the light day In a Texas method set up but my routine seems to have deviated a bit from that set up now!! Either way deadlifts are tricky to get in and press is a bitch of an exercise for me.
