Sounds like things are going well Marv. Great work!

I'd agree on the belt stuff. The vast majority of the work should be done without it. Personally I'll use it on a heavy single or triple on the squat, but never for 5's or on volume day. It's never felt right on a deadlift, no matter the style or weight.

Have fun with 120!

Cheers,
Jeff

Boo-yaa!!!

Thursday 12th October:
PR DAY.
Squat 145kg 1x5
Bench 120KG 1x2
Deadlift 167.5kg 1x5
Chins bw 1x10,1x9,1x6
Hanging leg raise 1x10
Calve Raise 370lbs 1x5

Squats are feeling great good tight mid section. I didnt do enough reps for my warm up on Bench, may or may not have effected the outcome 1x2, anywayz I will shoot for 1x3 next week. I Deadlifted with a narrower stance today, shins inside the knurling. I was sick of tearing my right shin open with the knurling. It felt much tighter and I will Lift this way in the future.

Rising up to the challenge of our rivals.

Sunday 14th October
Volume Day.
Squat 127.5kg 3x5
Bench !07.5kg 3x4
Rows 97.5kg 3x5
Gripwork 80kg 3x5

Felt abit worn out this week work etc. I was only able to make 3x4 on Bench. I had to use the hips a little on the last 2 reps of my last set of Rows. Still a good session, I will need to make sure I get plenty of rest this week.

Tuesday 17th October:

Recovery Day
Squat 102.5kg 1x5
Press 60kg 1x1,1x2,1x1

I am starting to feel the effects of fatigue again. I only did one set of Squats before Press, I was hoping for 3x3 on Press. It may be time for a deload.

Thanks Eric will do mate.
Thursday 18th October
PR day:
Squat 147.5 1x1

I got stuck in the hole on my 2nd rep of Squats. Saved by the safety pins. Unhappy with my performance, I attempted another set and got stuck in the hole on the first rep. After this I did a set of dips and chins. Then called it quits. I guess it is time for a Deload. I was thinking of having an easy week, just some light stuff. Then starting again with a 10% drop in weight on my volume day. A question for you Eric, when I start back do I stick with 3x5 on volume day or should I try to work up to 5x5 again? Athough it would not be easy for me at those weights. Thanks for the encouragement Red.

Some questions: Can you progress on volume day? And what is 147.5 kgs to you? How long has it been now?

Besides basic set-up problems like starting with the knees past the bar and the shins too far away, about the deads and shins thing. Some people do have to dragthe bar on their shins regardless but no, not everyone. I've never had a big problem with shin drag. In fact if it happens it is because I am pulling back on the bar. For a guy my weight the best strategy is to pull the bar straight up in the shortest possible path. It is necessay to have the bar tucked in to the shins and the shoulders slightly forward of the bar on set up.

If you are pulling back on the bar I'd say don't do that. I know a lot of people have been instructed to do that but it is usually because you get the really heavy weights doing it and people don't realize their is an advantage to pulling back on the bar when you weight close to 300 or more and you're tall as shit. But for lighter dudes I'll bet that becomes more a detriment since your body weight isn't helping you very much, you're creating drag, and really, you'er just moving the bar back instead of up, which is where you want it to go.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.
