DB bench press - 70X5, 75X5, 80X5, 80X3, 80X3, 80X7
Face pulls

Nice light day. I accidentally caused a subluxation of my shoulder last week while I was sitting at my desk, so it's a little aggravated. Looking forward to deloading this week...and then a week of "active rest".

Squats - 195X3, 235X3, 285X3, 315X1
Leg curls

Did some form work today. I wish the competition was this weekend instead of next. The anticipation is killing me. I've built all of the strength that I'll use in the competition, so it's just basically waiting & resting now.

Well, today (or technically yesterday) was my first meet. I'm pretty pleased with the overall result.

I ate some greasy food the night before & took a bunch of stims & whatnot in the morning before squatting. I didn't know whether to puke, shit, or pass out. I don't even remember most of it because I was so fucked up. It cleared up after squatting.

I squatted 355 with crappy form for my first attempt. It was very easy. The second and third attempts, I received the squat command and moved my feet a little and got disqualified both times. I really, really need to work on my setup. I had 385 on the bar both times and I was looking forward to trying 400. On the bright side, I saved my lower back.

I hate bench. I smoked 205, did 225 fairly easily, then got stuck on 235. Not much to say about it.

I haven't deadlifted over 400 in a few months & my lower back has been dead for the past month or so. I opened with 385 & smoked it. Next I tried 420, which would give me the 1000lb total I was looking for & I got that, although it felt heavy. Third attempt, I pulled 440. The bar slowed down when it got to my knees, but I managed to grind it out. It was definitely the most difficult lift of my life, but I stuck with it. It was a great feeling...I got the biggest ovation of the day from the crowd for any lift. Everybody went crazy and I ended up getting congratulated for that pull by about half of the other 70 lifters at the meet. Several people said it was one of the top two or three attempts at the meet all day...which is a huge compliment. It was a 35lb PR also.

Like Phil, I came in first place in my division (Raw, Juniors, 198). I weighed in at 196. Interestingly, my buddy that I talked into competing signed up at the same time as me under Men's. He didn't realize that he could sign up as a Junior, so he signed up under Raw Men's 198. He won his division (his total was 230lbs higher than mine) and because he didn't compete as a Junior, I was the only person in my division, so I took first also. Five guys from my gym competed & we all took 1st in our divisions.

I knew what I needed to work on before the meet, but it's even more apparent now. It was a great experience. I put together a 1020 total, so I have a good reference point now.

Congrats Rossco!! I know I would be the same for my first meet.Well done for competing thats great man.It sure takes guts to get up and do it in front of people for real. And hey you can always tell people you won first place in your first meet!!

Nice fucking pull too man.Sheeesh, thats big time.Next stop 500.

Did you have a mono for the squatting?

Nice meet Ross!!!! Too bad about the squats but overall you hit your goal of 1000 lbs. You gotta be proud to dig out that deadlift the way you did. 35 lb PR is huge. I bet you're already looking to find out what meet you're going to aim for next. During a meet, there's so much more to consider than just lifting the weight. Your experience will make the next meet that much more successful.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking I'll wait until the fall to do another meet. That's when the original plan was to compete.

I was lifting in a mono. I didn't get to use the other mono during warmups & my bar height ended up being too high. My knee wraps were super tight & the head judge for the first flight was having people pause 2-3 seconds before giving the squat command. If someone beat him, they were red lighted. I think 3 people got red lights. Not a single person in the other flights got red lights for that & they had different head judges who gave the squat command almost immediately. However I still have no excuse. I don't know if the bar slipped or what, but it pulled me back a short step both times right after his command.

Great Show ! 1000+ in wicked. And a new PR on top on it all.

Fall show would be great , gives you lots of time to recover and train harder !

Will you try to put on size or stay the same and work on the weights?
