Man I'm full of questions today. lol

Adipose-
In histology, adipose tissue or fat is loose connective tissue composed of adipocytes. Adipose tissue is derived from lipoblasts. Its main role is to store energy in the form of fat, although it also cushions and insulates the body. Obesity or being overweight in humans and most animals does not depend on body weight but on the amount of body fat—specifically, adipose tissue. Two types of adipose tissue exist: white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT). Adipose tissue also serves as an important endocrine organ[1] by producing hormones such as leptin, resistin and the cytokine TNFα. The formation of adipose tissue appears to be controlled by the adipose gene.

Visceral-
Visceral fat, also known as organ fat or intra-abdominal fat, is located inside the peritoneal cavity, packed in between internal organs, as opposed to subcutaneous fat which is found underneath the skin and intramuscular fat which is found interspersed in skeletal muscle. An excess of visceral fat leads to the "pot belly" or "beer belly" effect, in which the abdomen protrudes excessively. This body type is also known as "apple" shaped, as opposed to "pear" shape, in which fat is deposited on the hips and buttocks. Visceral fat is composed of several adipose depots including mesenteric, epididymal white adipose tissue (EWAT) and perirenal depots. Visceral fat accumulation is associated with insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and coronary artery disease.

A lot of sumo wrestlers obviously have very high amounts of adipose fat tissue. Interestingly, they often have low visceral fat which typically causes the most health problems. You know that really skinny guy that always eats whatever he wants and never puts on much visible fat? Well, he might be storing a lot of it as visceral fat which increases the risk of the above mentioned medical problems. It's hard to tell.

Nope. I'll try to remember to ask about it the next time I see one of my ES buddies. They might be able to shed a little more light on it since they have dealt with the DEXA frequently.

Here are the results from the DEXA. It's pretty interesting. Sorry the quality sucks. I accidentally shut the paper in my car door this morning. And I left the quality fairly low. I have a very crooked spine.

Here's something interesting that's happened between the two scans (scan dates were Nov 18 and Dec 9):
Left arm dropped .3% BF
Right arm dropped 1.7% BF
Trunk gained .5% BF
Left leg dropped .7% BF
Right leg gained .9% BF
Head gained .1% BF (between the ears)
Total was 21.7% BF both times.
I gained 3 lbs (about 2.5lbs LBM)
My bone density increased also

Atlas stones (singles) - 165X5, 190X3
Yoke walks - 6X40ft 200lbs + yoke
Front squats - 135X5, 185X3, 205X2, 225X2, 235X1, 255X1
Tire flip - 10 reps w/ 400lb tire

Videos coming of the stones & a little clip of the yoke. Good workout. I was planning on just doing upper back and doing nothing that activated the hamstrings, but I was feeling better today, so I went for it. The tire was a joke...so light. The next tire up is 800lbs. I couldn't really get it up & I wasn't going to try beyond a certain point because of the hammy.

The 3rd rep was very crappy and the 4th was mildly crappy. I didn't realize that I was setting up too far away from the stones until after I had done several reps. I learned a lot from the vids.

EDIT: The first two reps are 165 & the second two are 190

cool set up. Where did you get the atlas stones?

Ross86 12-13-2008 05:43 AM

I don't remember who makes them. We have a bunch of different stones at the gym. My buddy that owns the gym was talking about buying a 350lb or 400lb stone. Whoever makes them has molds. I believe the weights on the ones he has go from 165 to 300. The smaller stones are solid concrete, but the heavier ones have iron cores. The 190lb stone is very heavy...it would be much easier to deadlift 350lbs than to lift that stone.
