A discrete hypertrophy phase is one way to do it. I know that D likes that and that is what IA had him do. But you don't have to organize it that way. You may find your more successful doing that, you may not. It pays to experiment. One thing for sure is a break from the pure strength training can be very welcome and beneficial.

I know that a lot of trainees want to have the why's and wherefores of things. I know I do. It help to get your mind around the big picture. Many time the percieved benefits or drawbacks of doing something are not the actual benefits or drawbacks. And understanding the reality of that can help you plan better.

However what matters is results, in the end. What happens, not what you think will happen.
