oatmeal
Ok this is a little different, at least to me and I thought I would share.
This morning my girl friend asked me if I had any oatmeal she could eat for breakfast. I told her yeah but it's just plain. Then she asked if I had any maple syrup.
I said, yeah, what are you going to do combine them, and she did. I thought is was weird but I decided to try a bite. It was real good actually. It's like eating soggy French toast. and I was thinking it would be a great meal, with some protein, for pre or post workout, with some simple sugar and the complex carbs from the oatmeal. or you could have sugar free syrup instead. Has anybody else tried this?

Yep. I've put maple syrup in my oatmeal many a time. That's why they have the maple flavored instant. Never tried it as a pre/post workout meal.

almost every morning I hit up some oatmeal with sugar free syrup, and a dash of cin.
and a half a cup of cottage cheese, but thats seperate i dont think i could deal with them together.
you just need to watch the sugar free stuff. If they use aspartame its bad news, that shit screws with your insulin sensitivity and allows sugars to be stored as fats more quickly (to my understanding) so you want to limit yoru use of it. Get the kind with splenda instead.

Have you ever tried stevia, hrdgain? I'm just talking in terms of alternative sweeteners. I know it doesn't come in sugar free syrup (it's not approved for use as a food additive). I was just reading something about its effect on insulin.

Never mind. Stevia does seem to lower blood glucose but it stimulates the production of insulin by direct action on pancreatic beta cells.

Depends on when you want to insulin spike. Around a workout would be fine.

I've used stevia before, but its almost too sweet. each packet is like 3 sugar packets i never know how much to use.
I didnt realize that stuff actually lowers blood glucose levels, that seems very odd for a sweetner.

Oh yeah. It's the actual leaves of an herb, not a synthesized artificial sweetener. The sugars are called glyocides I think. But yes it has various propeties that affect blood sugar and other things.

If you love peanut butter and jelly you'll love this-
sometimes I'll cook up some plain oatmeal.. add a tbsp of natural peanut butter and 2 tbsp of Smuckers sugar free strawberry preserves.. add 2 packets of splenda.. mix it up.. it's freakin awesome.
eat it for breakfast along with some egg whites or during the day w/ your protein shake as a snak
