creatine monohydrate problem
Hey everyone,
I just got some GNC brand creatine monohydrate. I havent done any research as to which brand is better because I was in a hurry to leave the city, so don't get too hard on that hehe.
anyway, i used to use cell tech creatine, but while i was at GNC i found out that creatine monohydrate (5gr/serv.) had no carbs so i got that. Now my problem is, it doesnt DISSOLVE in WATER or DIET ICE TEA!...That's all i drink and package instructions say "mix one teaspoon with water or juice...". Whenever i do that, it kinda mixes wit wit the water but in a matter of seconds (less that 2) u can see the creatine on the bottom of the cup like it's just sand. i was wondering if i was doin smth wrong, cuz i cant drink it like that, it just all stays at the bottom..
HELP! thnx in advance

Well the beauty of GNC is that if you don't like the product you can return it for a full refund. Me and my friends get alot of free stuff doing that. Every once in a while I buy something I've been meaning to try, use half to two thirds of it and still return it for a refund. Nothing ventured nothing gained. If I like the product, I take my refund and buy it somewhere else for half the price.
Regular creatine usually has a hard time to dissolve. Your only bet is to slam it down immediately after stirring. Either that or do what I do and spoon it into your mouth, then wash it down with some grape juice.
I'm also not clear on whether or not the GNC Mono is from Creapure or not. Check it out. If it doesn't have a creapure logo on the side like other better brands such as On or Prolab, then the integrity and quality is suspect.

Also, if your mixing pure monohydrate with water it really isnt doing you any good. creatine mono needs a glucose (sugar) transporter to get it into your muscles to do its work. Thats why they say to mix it with some sort of juice.
my advice would be to return it, and pick up some cee. this type of creatine needs no transporter, and can be taken w/o the added carbs.

I just might have to start doing that. I've been wanting to try ON's Pro Complex, but it's kinda 'spensive.

CEE = Creatine Esther Ethyl. It's creatine bonded to some sort of phosphate (I don't feel like looking up the specifics right now, it's time for the gym) that aids in it's absorption. Do a google search of it.

Creatine help
You clearly don't drink anything with sugar in it because of your diet, and I can relate. I stopped drinking things with sugar in it awhile ago. Once I went back on creatine, I resisted it for awhile, but then I eventually gave in to suggestions and I gotta tell you, using some dextrose with my creatine has made a huge difference. Now I usually mix it with Fruitopia and dextrose or with some powdered sugary drink mix and dextrose and the effects from the creatine are nearly double fold.
I also decided to give 0311's idea about shoving it in your mouth and drinking it down a try (after laughing at the idea) and it works too. I was surprised that it worked, but it did. It was just as effective as mixing it all around. You could try that.
Good luck.
(I wonder if Canadian GNC's have that same return policy, lol)

as brad stated, it is Creatine Esther Ethyl. It is another form of creatine that does not need a glucose transporter to move into the cell. Thus removing the need for excess sugar when using creatine. I've seen great results from it, and you can find the raw powder pretty cheap.
Bulknutrition.com sells it, it is 1fast400 brand. I use 2g on off days, 4g on lifting days. if you are so inclined, give it a try.

BradG...thnx for explainin what it was even though its apparently pretty popular (there are posts about it on the forum). I think im gonna give it a try pretty soon.
boxing raven, yeah you are right. I ve been trying to limit my sugar intake to a minimum, so no/low carbs is really important to me. I actually tried that shoving-in-your-mouth mehtod and found out it's less of a hassle than tryin to drink half a liter of water wit "sand" in it lol.
hrdgain81, thanks a lot for the info. Thnx for tellin me where i could get it. I don't kno that many online stores that sell anything like that. Actually, i only know one. (at bodybuilding.com), but i ve never ordered anything from there.
Im gonna make a note of the serving sizes. thnx
