I would think it will all hinge on your recovery. For instance, If on day one you squat heavy, then on day two you try to do box jumps, or agility dots, or whatever, you may find yourself still sore and fatiqued.
Why not run the 5x5, get your strength up, then focus on plyos as you get closer to the season.
I don't do this for my family, my friends, women, accolades, pride, or ego. I do it for me and no one else, its just part of who I am.
