I think logically that the thing you got hurt doing is the thing likely to make you hurt. When I hurt my back it was on the job and so deads of course can make my back sore but they don't really hurt it...but tend to help keep it healthy. On the other hand bent rows can kill since that is the position I was in when I injured it.
