Default Trainers...are they necessary?

I wasnt sure where to post this question so open conversation seemed to be a logical place to start. Basically i am interested in starting to train for figure comps. I have lost a lot of weight on my own and gained a significant amount of muscle. however i think that having a person with previous experience in the area could help me reach my goals a lot faster. I am curious as to what everybodys opinion is on getting a trainer to get me ready for a show. Are they necessary? If so, where do you go about finding one? I have tried to do a lot of research on my own but i always just come up with personal trainers which is obviously different. I have tried going to different gyms to see if any of the trainers have done shows and from there i could just attach myself to their leg and never let go : )

Necessary, maybe not depending where you are at in your training, i.e., novice or expert. I would say that a trainer could push you past points you thought unattainable, when you start out, and they can give you tips on what to do for these types of comps that you might not know about unless you had experience. I would recommend one.
You already said most of the ways I would look for a personal figure comp. trainer except going to an actual show and asking around or seeing if there are advertisements for those types of trainers. Good luck and let us know what happens.... maybe a journal?

If you are interested in doing a figure show and want to get a trainer I would suggest getting a nutritionalist. The diet is the tricky part of any show. For the training aspect you can get a ton of info and help for free on this site or http://www.figureathlete.com/index.jsp (aimed towards figure athletes) Not to push you away from this site , but I'm sure you will find more people over there who have been through or going through.

Like Dave said , starting a journal ( here or wherever) is a great idea and very helpful.

Thanks guys. I actually already frequent the figure athlete site and it definitely has a lot of good information there. I love this site so i just do both. I have been doing a personal journal but i know that if i actually posted here you guys could give me some feedback (or they could there).

I have tried looking up some figure competitions and i dont see any coming up near here for awhile. Maybe i will try to look that up again because i havent looked in about a month.

I appreciate the input.

You could put this in the training forum. I will move it there if you'd like.

If there is a time to have a trainer..then I agree that this situation would be the right time. There is so much to consider. Even for a person who was just super skilled at the training and nutritions aspects that doesn't mean that they are prepared to be in a figure comp.

Yea put this post wherever you see fit. I definitely want to get a trainer/coach. The hard part for me is finding one. I re-looked up the upcoming fitness/figure shows and the next ones in March about 6 hours away. Im gonna go though just to check it out and talk to some people there and ask as many questions as they will allow

Lol i loved your blog. Its funny because my boyfriend is a trainer and im dying to send him the link. He got extremely offended the other day when he was telling me about this client he has that has gained 16lbs of muscle and dropped 5 in bf in the past 3 months. My reaction was okay this guy has good genes. (my bf has him on a terrible protein shake full of sugar) so i said imagine what kind of results he could get if he was going in on his own time as well and taking more beneficial supplements.
i think you are correct when saying trainers facilitate motivation and achieving ones goals by pushing you. however, invest in a good workout partner, google some routines and your good to go.

I saved my cash and did just that. Ive tested my bf 6 times since i started and im up 11lbs of muscle, down 19lbs in bf.

Anyways, great post
