Dark, you seem to have a really hard time grasping what people are telling you. No offense but try reading it out loud. The weights you started with were TOO HEAVY. You shouldn't have started where you left off but a good bit lighter than that.

170 pounds on squat is a light weight by who's measurement? Hell, once upon a time that used to be heavy to me. I don't care if it's 50 pounds or 250 pounds it only counts how heavy it is for YOU.

Having your butt and hips come off the bench on bench press is not good form. Too heavy.

Absolutely. Lower the weight and work on the form. Once the form is good the weight will come so don't worry about it for now. We all had to start somewhere. I started on the bench with just the bar, no weight on it at all, and now I rep 315 for 8-10. Take your time and get some patience....it will come. Good luck.

I think everyone told you everything you need to know, its just up to you whether you are going to listen.

STOP putting on weight you can not manage. i looked at your first post and you only did one set of deads for 275 now you are trying to do 285 3 times. stop doing this to yourself because you are fucking up your program and your progress.

i think you should drop all your lifts by at least 30 pounds and go from there. before you come up with any reasons why you shouldnt do such because it will be to light i will give you al the answers why you should.

you may feel like its light- SO WHAT!!!!!! if a five year old punches you in the face in wont hurt will it.....no, but if he does it 5 times it will.............YES. you are squating 3 times a week it will get tough because you will make up that 30 pounds soon enough.

you may not want to go light because people in the gym look at you funny- FUCK THEM!!!!!! nine times out of ten whatever they doing aint productive and everybody started out somewhere.

PUT ON LIGHTER WEIGHTS!!!!!!! DO THEM WITH CORRECT FORM AND EXPLOSION!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WILL PROGRESS IF YOU LISTEN AND DO WHAT PEOPLE TELL YOU TO DO!!!!!! STOP TRYING TO GO HEAVIER THAN WHAT YOU CAN!!!!! STOP FUCKING UP YOUR PROGRESS!!!!! THE QUICKEST WAY TO LOOK LIKE THE DUDE IN YORU AVATAR IS TO DO SHIT THE RIGHT WAY!!!!!!!

Here is your problem. You should have start at like 70-80lbs bench and 140-150lbs squat and probably 240-250lbs for deads. Yes it will seem easy but you're practicing form. With weights that light you'll be able to load 5lbs every workout no problem and by the time you get to where your max used to be, your body will have started to adapt and you'll lift more.

Take these weights and start there. Thats my thoughts. Anyone else agree?

Agghhh my head is spinning. Ok. I'm going to do that, drop everything by 30 pounds and focus on PERFECT form.

So how should I progress[so I grow], 5 pounds each workout? Is that the majority vote here?

EDIT: how are these for starting numbers?

[A] 3x5 Squats @ 150
3x5 Bench @ 80
1x5 Deadlift @ 240

[B] 3x5 Squat @ 150
3x5 Press @ 60
3x5 Row @ 100

GAH I'm gonna cry, these starting numbers are so low =[

aww well, in the long run it'll be worth it.. I hope..

I'm going to throw in some ab work and pullups / chinups, maybe even dips, good idea?

dont worry about lfiting light weights. and i have to go back and read this program i thought you were supposed ot be doing 5 sets of each.

but dont worry about the lower weight. you will be cool

EricT 06-05-2008 10:03 AM

No it's 3 sets of 5 for Starting Strength.

MONSTAFACE 06-05-2008 10:10 AM

oh aight. thanks E saved me a couple minutes :).

DARKVISION- if you have to run 10 miles you arent gonna start of running full speed ahead right? RIGHT! you start off at a pace a little bit faster than you would walk and as you go you start to pick up. when you are getting near the end you pick up spead because you have momentum and you trying to finsih strong.

look at your program like that. its not supposed to kill you when you first start, but by the end you are just about dying to get through it. thats how it should be. you shouldnt be dying at the very beginning. pace youself my man and stop biting off more than you can chew

MONSTAFACE 06-05-2008 10:12 AM

oh and i like that last sentence in yoru signature E. i wish i had more time i would make that a hobbie of mines :)
