Get a vid like this next time you press something heavy too. :)

But I did see what I think I saw from the other angle.

I watched the video quite a few times and if you look at the bar path, it is going around your head.

So the bar is under the chin, comes up and then out to miss your jaw then it clears the head and travel above the scapula. The shift around the head is the reason why you have that sticking point, imo, because that was also my sitcking point. In fact, it still is, but if I'm able to press the weight to the point where I can get the weight over top of my scapula the rep is a done deal.

Also at the top of the movement you've got thoracic flexion and lumbar extension, which is not very powerful in terms of the lockout, and can also give you some pain/discomfort after a very heavy press.

What you should be doing arching your upper back a bit before the press, in order to miss your chin with the bar, and then as the weight clears your head you straighten up your torso and bring your scapula under the bar. The only thing moving around really is your thoracic spine. The bar path of that will be almost completely vertical.

Thoracic extensions will help with the upper back if you need more mobility after this tweak. But at least you're pressing over your head and not off at an angle in front of your forward, like most people, lol.

the heavy pressing vid might be a bit more truthful :) but getting the bar over the scapula sounds good...

i tend to watch how much thoracic extension i get....because....the last time i got too much....bulging disc :)

Its not much extension, its just enough to keep the bar from knocking your chin. You can give it a shot with a wooden dowel or an empty bar to see how much it is for you, but it shouldn't be anywhere near the bulging disc stage. :D

If anything you need to get under the bar and get it over the scapula with that back flat and shoulder girdle stable.

As gay as this following video may be, its got some good form for military press, towards the end it gets a bit hairy but the beginning you see the emphasis of moving the body under the bar.

that is a pretty good vid. at like 35 seconds and 57 seconds was reminiscent of last summer for me :) except with much more extension...and getting stuck there for quite awhile :)

thanks for the vid.

She is down right scary.

Impressive...but still scary.

You're welcome. I agree it is a good video, but only if you have your speaker turned off or have it muted. :biglaugh:

btw, she can bench something like 402lbs and she is (don't quote me) like 142lbs. THAT is scary. :D

Pitysister 07-16-2009 04:41 PM

she definitely shows what needs to be shown....until a few ugly reps :)

Kane 07-16-2009 04:43 PM

Some of those later reps shouldn't have been done, way too much extension going on.

Pitysister 07-16-2009 04:47 PM

that's danger territory.
