Front squats - 135X3, 135X5, 155X3, 185X3, 185X3, 205X2, 225X2, 225X3, 225X2
Pushed sled w/ 200lbs on it
On my last set of front squats, my hamstring cramped. I was still happy with my workout. I wanted to do 225 for a triple. And I did.

Hamstring cramps suck. I get them sometimes when I do the lying leg curls. Keep up the hard work!!

Thanks for the support
Monsta, I just changed my hand placement again. Hands just outside of my shoulders...not crossed though. I've been having someone coach me through my warm up sets & weight acclimation sets. It makes a world of difference since I've only gone heavy a few times with these. I love front squats though...they're a nasty, painful, strict, beneficial lift. I have to get my head right before I think about stepping under the bar.
I don't want to go heavier than I am right now for a few weeks. I'm going to rotate away from these and do some more core work before I try to do the same weight or more. I didn't have any problems so far...it's just preventive/preparative.

word. i hear that. i know they are tough on you. and you have to concentrate like a muthafucka to make sure your form is straight. its just that with me im so used to picking up the bar like im getting ready to OH press. dont know exactly if thats the way i should do it. but i will toy around with different placemnts on an off day or something

There's actually guys out there who would frown at us for getting the bar off a rack when we front squat. I know Dan John says he gave away all his racks and does everything from the floor, lol.
The front squat is basically a portion of the clean. It's going to take a little skill to get that right versus just using a rack but there is nothing wrong with just cleaning the bar up to the shoulders. Just make sure you do a proper clean and it's not a reverse curl.
I sometimes clean the bar up. And when I'm dong push jerks I always clean the bar.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

Eric, I enjoyed your comments and DH's write up. That was some great food for thought. I know where I am and I know where I'm going. For some reason I haven't reflected very much on the road I'm taking. Of course I look at individual workouts and 10 day blocks of training, but not the big picture. I sat for a while and quantified my training. It was cool.
I've been thinking about doing a three week hypertrophy/balancing phase. I need to put on more size. I don't enjoy hypertrophy training as much as strength training, but I think the change will be refreshing. I want to increase GPP also. I'll be doing some more sled work, cleans, more DB work, and some strong man stuff. I played with the atlas stones this week and that was very cool. I've been afraid to do cleans because of form. I need to get some instruction...I train at the perfect place for it. I'm going to go over all of my weak points and give them extra focus during this period. It will probably change the way I train after I finish the hypertrophy phase. I'm looking forward to it.

A discrete hypertrophy phase is one way to do it. I know that D likes that and that is what IA had him do. But you don't have to organize it that way. You may find your more successful doing that, you may not. It pays to experiment. One thing for sure is a break from the pure strength training can be very welcome and beneficial.
I know that a lot of trainees want to have the why's and wherefores of things. I know I do. It help to get your mind around the big picture. Many time the percieved benefits or drawbacks of doing something are not the actual benefits or drawbacks. And understanding the reality of that can help you plan better.
However what matters is results, in the end. What happens, not what you think will happen.
